WikiHow: The Review

WikiHow was developed as an extension of Wikipedia. This creation gave access to discuss multiple topics to be informative as a how-to guide and up to date instructions manual. It establishes a community component amongst users as well being a Guru to their own topic. Users can share information and intrigue someone who is curious to know more about an article of their choosing. This has contributed to millions of people across the globe to gain more knowledge about multiple topics as well as languages. Which in more specific terms makes it easier for the average person to bring an idea of a recipe to life if they are unsure how to execute it.

Creating and evolving a topic about a recipe, language, physical activity can be exciting for many. It gives a person a sense of belonging and appreciation for it. The pictures you capture will tell a story. If you are an artsy or creative person this will be a delightful experience. Ultimately, helping anyone creating a wiki to articulate steps conveniently. Editing pictures to make them perfect for the web can be mentally taxing for some but adds a sprinkle of festivity to a dull picture. Changing the brightness and adding a touch of darkness can add more dimension to photos. Making it more eye-catching than a simple quick Iphone flick. There is a competitive advantage to having more vibrant pictures. This will make an article more convincing on the scale of deliciousness and exhibit the beauty of the food. Each element crafted delicately to reach the final result. Also, the competitive aspect on who and who’s article will not get approved to get posted on WikiHow. If an article looks unprofessional or cheesy it is unlikely to even be considered for approval. So, making sure the article is up to par from pictures down to the content will work in someone's favor tremendously. Though this can be quite laborious and tedious down to each detail. Which can make anyone develop perfectionist tendencies.

There is an issue with WikiHow’s is lack of diversity even with the abundance of topics. For example, searching for more cultural recipes such as hispanic or Caribbean dishes might not be as easy to find. Therefore, some people might want to search elsewhere for the recipe they want. It can be time consuming to search for recipes going from page to page after typing the desired topic in the search engine. On the contrary, each topic on WikiHow has a unique facet. Even when a topic is similar it has it’s differences. As a result, adding a positive note in terms of the diversity aspect. Wiki How not only finds ways to curb curiosity but evoke inspiration. Constructing a step by step recipe can zest up creativity, and benefit in learning how to be more concise and execute ideas effectively. There will be a point in time a person can be lost in capturing every moment thinking “How many more pictures can a phone take before it begins to malfunction?” For some the process might not always be easy or enjoyable but the outcome is what makes it all worthwhile.

First timers to WikiHow may find insight from articles they find and use it for their own self guide. Looking at a similar article they are creating to reference to further their own innovation. Referencing articles can save any newbie the headache and confusion on how to get started. It will also help with coding skills. With no experience referencing a WikiHow article can do wonders for productivity. For example, the recipe for Lentil soup was created by a previous user. Anyone on wiki with an account can edit and add their own version of Lentil Soup to their own original recipe as long as they follow the coding guidelines. Which allows endless articles to be modified.

It will be difficult to post without using required coding for each step as it will not come out as expected. Correspondingly, giving the user more organization and structure. That will get the article concise from details to pictures throughout each step. It also allows the user to be as creative as they want to be when it comes to the final version. Allowing the user to make as many drafts as possible until they are satisfied with the end result. They will be able to play with the layout and create multiple methods to their recipe.

All and all, WikiHow is a place for the imagination and anyone who wants to share their expertise on a subject. It is a place that demonstrates what a community platform is all about as well as give experience to those who want to learn how to develop their photoshop skills and get a point across short and sweet. The uniqueness is unlike any other platform but can be difficult in certain aspects and might not be for everyone. However, giving WikiHow a shot can still be a worthwhile experience.
